Charyn Canyon – Kazakhstan
Charyn Canyon – Kazakhstan – is well worth the three hour ride from Almaty. There are several bus per day to and from the edge of the canyon.
There are direct flights from Europe to Kazakhstan which made it a good options for the journey along The Pamir Highway. Whilst in Kazakhstan I visited Almaty, Big Almaty Lake and Charyn Canyon. There are many other fascinating places to see. Not least of all the old Silk Route city of Turkistan, or the modern city of Astana with its innovative architecture. Both good reasons to return to Kazakhstan!

Big Almaty Lake is a short distance from the city and a wonderful way to spend some time in the mountains and countryside of Kazakhstan.
Almaty makes travelling easy – it is a peaceful city and a modern day oasis and travel hub. The Soviet built metro is fun, experimental, and outlandish.
