Tallinn

One of the best preserved medieval cities in Europe is Tallinn; the capital city of Estonia. Surprisingly, it only has a population of 400,000. It is a compact city and easy to move around. The old city is a UNESCO World heritage site with a particularly impressive town hall, city walls, and towers. Tallinn’s Town Hall Square has buildings dating back to the 13th century. The square is vast, colourful, and well-preserved.

The clear skies and cool weather in summer make it an ideal time for leisurely wandering around the old town. Like the main cities of its neighbouring countries, Tallinn’s principal squares come alive as they fill with people making the most of the many outdoor bars and restaurants.
