The University Town of Tartu

The University Town of Tartu makes a good overnight stop and is less than three hours by train from Tallinn. It is Estonia’s second city with a population of just 100,000. Almost a quarter of the population are students which brings vibrancy and, of course, festivals and cultural events.

There are comfortable hotels and restaurants within walking distance of the emblematic Town Hall. The main thoroughfare from the Town Hall to the river makes a great place to have lunch and people watch.

The Estonian National Museum

The Estonian National Museum is on the outskirts of town, and it’s a pleasant walk to get there. The permanent exhibition “Echos of the Urals” is an innovative and digitally-inspired cultural presentation of the stateless Finno-Urgic people who live across Northern Scandinavia and Northern Russia.
