Warsaw
Warsaw is a city with great variety and has a lot more old-world charm than I had expected. The modern city centre houses several gleaming glass and concrete structures that wouldn’t look out of place in the most advanced of cities. In contrast, the architecture of the New Town and Old Town have an air of elegance and sophistication. Most of those two areas underwent major reconstruction following their obliteration during World War II. Now, those areas are usually heaving on a summer’s day with throngs of tourists. Poland made it easy to visit during the COVID-19 pandemic and eager travellers were only too happy to oblige.
Wilanow Palace
There are several outstanding palaces within easy reach of Warsaw. One of the most important in the country is Wilanow Palace, and It is only an hour by bus from central Warsaw. It was built towards the end of the 17th century for King Jan (John) III. The building is in excellent condition and the interior is opulent. A most delightful way to enjoy a day is wander through the acres of topiary and flower beds while marvelling at the palace.
