Quebec City

Le Château Frontenac – takes centre stage in Quebec City

Montreal to Quebec was a quick hop by Canadian standards – a train journey of about three and a half hours. I felt very much at home in Quebec City. I based myself at a very welcoming B&B apartment run by a friendly and chatty Syrian-Canadian, and spent the days cycling and exploring the old quarters and nearby attractions.

Quebec City is Canada’s oldest city. There are fine examples of 17th and 18th century colonial French architecture. The old city centre has an air of sophistication, everything is pristine and the buildings are well-dressed with hanging baskets of flowering plants; even the fast-food chains need to show a little style!

Montmorency Falls

Cycling for less than an hour north east out of Quebec City, following the St Lawrence River, leads to the fresh and energetic Montmorency Falls.
