Kyoto is a former capital city of Japan best known for its historic quarters, old temples, meticulous gardens, and long-standing geisha district.
Nearby, Oshino and The Sacred Eight Ponds made a wonderful place to unwind with direct views of Mount Fuji from my room.
Charyn Canyon – Kazakhstan – is well worth the three hour ride from Almaty. There are several bus per day to and from the edge of the canyon.
Big Almaty Lake is a short distance from the city and a wonderful way to spend some time in the mountains and countryside of Kazakhstan.
Almaty makes travelling easy – it is a peaceful city and a modern day oasis and travel hub. The Soviet built metro is fun, experimental, and outlandish.
